Creel again

The best day in Mexico..... We ate breakfast overlooking the canyon. Fresh melon and papaya... next came bacon and eggs, chips with tomatillo sauce, and frijoles. We headed back to Creel... I didn’t want to say goodbye to this beautiful place. We first got a place to stay for night... we are staying at a little house overlooking the town. A very enthusiastic guy that lives on this compound is also a guide so we hired him to show us around for the day. He knew a little bit of English so that was fun that we could communicate a little. We loaded up in his very battered old white van and began careening through the hills at top speed. Our first stop was elephant rock where there was a huge rock that looked just like... an elephant. Next we headed for a place where there was a waterfall. We turned of a road and ahead seemed an impossible trail. A boy...not sure how old he was...maybe 20-30 met us their and began signing to our driver. He could not talk and had the mind of a child but he was so happy. Just beaming. Our guide is friends with him and brings him clothes. He asked if he could hop on the back of the van. How he stayed on is beyond me. We traveled over the biggest rocks and bumps, through the rivers and between boulders so huge our mirrors almost scraped. Ladies were washing clothes in the rivers and laying them out to dry on the rocks. At the tribe settlement entrance we parked and walked along the path. Our guide is good friends with all the people of this tribe... fist bumping high fives and hugs all around.  Little wooden stands lined the path with ladies selling hand made baskets, wooden spoons, skirts and more. The boy kept ahead of us and was so proud to be our guide... he just smiled and laughed and motioned for us to follow. And the waterfall... was so beautiful... It’s so awesome that God created so many beautiful places for us to enjoy.
We stopped at Lake Arareco.... just a quiet blue lake with an island in the middle. I could have stayed there for hours.  Next was Valley of the Mushrooms... huge mushroom shaped rocks...we seen a church that was from the 1600s.

Carne asada tacos for lunch then we walked around Creel. Of course we had to stop at the ice cream place for fresas con crema. While we were there we heard one of the  girls working there began singing Ill fly away. At first we thought we heard wrong... basically nobody knows English but then suddenly she turns on the speaker and began playing English gospel songs... that was neat.  We grabbed some crepes to take back for our supper. We have been getting to our hotel by 6:30 every night because it is not safe to be out after dark.
