Haiti Day 7

 Our last day with Our Healing Haiti team. We all got ready for church and headed out at about 8:30. The singing was incredible. Some in English, Creole and French. The service was about an hour and a half. When we got back and loaded up our stuff and headed to Wahoo Bay. Swam in the beautiful blue water. It was so still and clear. One place we were jumping in off a water trampoline looked about 3 feet deep but I never hit the bottom. I’m guessing it was actually quite a bit deeper but it was just so clear. A guy offered to take us snorkeling for only 5 dollars. He had an old wooden rowboat that looked fairly shaky. Another guy later had a little boat with a motor and he took 12 of us out to snorkel. The boat was beyond loaded down. He said I sing for you and began singing I Have Decided To Follow Jesus at the top of his lungs. In English. Then he continued to sing while we were suppose to clap to the rhythm. When we had gotten out a ways we stopped. Then he told us we can’t use snorkel piece cuz of COVID and pulls out a bunch of nasty stinky goggles. Oh well. I wouldn’t have wanted to use the snorkels anyway if they were like that ewwwww. But we swam around and saw the coral reefs and pretty little blue and yellow fish. When we got back to the shore our food had come that we had ordered over an hour earlier. Crab and shrimp. Some delicious cooked vegetables and rice. So good. We headed back later in the afternoon. We blew a tire so we pulled off at a tire shop. A couple tires and air compressor under a tree. They had the spare on in 15 min. We had supper together the last time... it has been such a good time... I have learned so much.... I have seen contentment in thie kids whose belongings wouldn’t even fill a backpack... I have seen joy in the eyes of an elderly person who was so thankful that we had came to see him... I have seen people whose love for Jesus is so strong... Tomorrow the team flies out except for 4 of us girls. We have a ride to Ganthier and will be staying at the liaison house. We plan to be at the orphanage for the week. I doubt we will have wifi. So I guess I might update when I get home. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for those of you who donated to me to give to Healing Haiti... and for those of you who have prayed. It has been one of the best experiences of my life.

Our Street My 4 friends and I arrived in Bali on the 4th after traveling for  30+ hours. Somehow we lost January 3 at some point in our travels. We arrived at 7am. We took an uber to our villas which are an hour away. Our driver offered to stop and let us get breakfast if we wanted which we did of course. We have the cutest villas with a bedroom and bathroom. An outdoor kitchen is ours to use as well. It is about a 6-7 minute walk to the Baby Home where we will be volunteering.     We dropped off our luggage and headed down to the black sand beach that is nearest us, about 15 minute drive. Just keeping it real, there was a lot of trash and garbage on the beach. There are stunning beaches on the island, we just aren’t in the tourist area. We walked down aways to a little outdoor coffee shop and cafe. $1-2 for iced coffees and matchas that are incredible. We stopped at a night market for street food and fruit on our way back. Barcelona, Spain

  Off to another adventure. When a friend asks if you want to go to Spain and Portugal you can’t say no, right? After meeting in Chicago, Lluvia and I made the 8.5 hour flight to Barcelona. As we were landing we flew over the Balearic Sea, with tiny white sailboats dotting its smooth blue surface. Customs are a breeze. Stamped our passports and did not ask a single question. It was 1:30pm and we knew we could not waste a second of our day. We headed for our hostel by bus and were able to check in early and drop off our packs. We walk through ornate arched doorways. Paint is peeling and the wood is worn. Old marble floors make the path to a    marble stairway. Large wooden doors line the halls with ornate brass hardware. Up a few floors, after following the signs for Hostel River we found a small desk with a man that only spoke Spanish. Perfect to have a native Spanish speaker with me! Sevilla, Spain

  Sevilla, Spain. We arrived by train to Sevilla. We took a bus down to the historic part of town and found our Airbnb. We got our keys from a little lock box outside 2 heavy large wooden doors. A big key opens these doors, but it also is the back entrance to a shop so it stays open during the day. Up 2 flights of worn marble stairs with black wrought iron railings. We made our way across a roof top terrace to our studio apartment. It was perfect. And it has a washer which is fancy and we don’t have to wash laundry in the sink. We made our way down the winding cobblestone streets and found a place serving tapas. Pesto pasta and carbonara with grilled pork and fried potatoes was amazing. We bought tickets to go up the Setas de Sevilla to see the city lights at night. It is a large wooden art structure that covers over a block. There are pathways to walk on top and see the city below.
